PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Mr. Powell has been
practicing geotechnical engineering since completing his Master’s Degree in
1990. His academic background centered on geotechnical and structural
engineering. Besides his educational training, he has many years of
construction experience with commercial, government, and residential projects.
Mr. Powell’s experience in the Northwest
includes a variety of large residential developments, commercial, industrial and
municipal projects. He has extensive experience in reinforced slope and wall
design in addition to landslide analysis and repair. His slope stability
experience includes the use of slope inclinometers and back-calculating slope
soil parameters. His landslide repairs have included the use of fill
buttresses, drilled piers, reinforced soil walls, and drainage improvements.
Working on these types of projects provides valuable experience when analyzing
global stability for site development.
Experience on large residential
developments includes recommendations for roadway and pavement design. His
roadway design experience includes evaluation of large cut slopes and retaining
walls, recommendations for the efficient use of materials for embankment
construction, and design of reinforced soil walls.
His commercial, industrial and
residential experience includes design of both shallow and deep foundations. He
has designed with deep foundations using driven and drilled piles and piers. He
has also designed temporary shoring walls.
Mr. Powell’s construction and
professional experience has given him the ability to offer economical solutions
for complex problems. He believes that the critical phase of each project is
the planning stage. Proper planning requires foresight and a team approach to
design and produce successful projects.
